How to start a cat journal

A cat journal gives the everyday details somewhere to stay: the chair they always choose, the sound they make at breakfast, or the afternoon they finally fell asleep beside you. You do not need a perfect photo or a long entry to begin.

Updated

Begin with the cat you know today

Choose one recent photo and write a few lines about your cat as they are now. Include their name, a favorite place to nap, a habit that makes you smile, and how they became part of your life. If you do not know their exact birthday, there is no need to invent one.

In Everwhisker, start with one cat journal and add a photo or today’s moment using the middle + button. You can take a photo with Camera or choose an existing picture with Photos. Review the image and add a note before saving.

Use a small prompt when words feel difficult

A useful entry answers one small question. “What made me laugh today?” is easier than trying to summarize your cat’s entire day. A sentence about the moment often adds something a photo cannot show.

  • Where did they choose to sleep?
  • What game or toy caught their attention?
  • Did they do something for the first time?
  • What ordinary detail would I miss if I forgot it?

Choose a rhythm you can enjoy

Try one entry a week, or save a moment whenever it happens. There is no streak to protect and no need to fill every date. A journal with a handful of meaningful entries can be more enjoyable to revisit than a routine that feels like homework.

Mix quick photos with occasional longer notes. Looking back after a month can help you notice which entries matter most to you and decide what you would like to record next.

Keep privacy and backup in mind

Everwhisker keeps your private journal on your device. Publishing a public cat profile on Meowpage is a separate, optional Lifetime Premium feature; it does not publish your entire journal.

Backup and restore are free. Export a backup file and keep a copy somewhere safe, especially before changing phones. Saving entries in the app is different from keeping an external backup, and private journals are not automatically synced to an Everwhisker cloud account.
